Dahlia Tuber Sale Policies
DAHLIA TUBER SALE POLICIES
PLEASE READ BEFORE ORDERING: Over the past four seasons we've been building our inventory of our favourite dahlia varieties for home gardeners and cut flower growers. Our tubers are grown with care from our farm in Muskoka, Ontario. We diligently monitor plant health and have strict growing, harvesting, and sanitation protocols to ensure our flowers and tubers are clean and free from disease.
SHIPPING: Shipping is within Canada only. We can not ship internationally. Shipping will happen tentatively between April 20th -May 3rd, depending on temperatures. You will receive shipping and tracking information once your order has shipped. We cannot accommodate early shipping requests.
Our shipping charge is a flat $27 rate across Canada. We're happy to offer combined shipping for multiple dahlia tuber orders. Please indicate on secondary orders that you’d like a “pick-up” so as not to be charged the shipping cost.
PICKUP FROM THE FARM: We have a free pickup option for local customers. Pickup days will be at the farm in Muskoka on Saturday, April 26th, Sunday, April 27th, Saturday, May 3rd, and Sunday May 4th between the hours of 10am and 3pm. If you can't make it on these days, please choose shipping at checkout. If you're not 100% sure you can make it on one of these days, please choose shipping at checkout and if you end up picking up from the farm, we will refund your shipping charge when you pick your order up. We are not able to accommodate pickup outside of these pickup days.
PRODUCT INFORMATION : All tubers are sold as single divisions (one tuber, not a clump of tubers). Every tuber is carefully inspected to have at least one viable eye for growth. Our tubers are stored at cold temperatures and may still be dormant at shipping, so eyes may be difficult to discern upon receipt. Please trust that we have identified eyes when we were dividing and again at shipping. Dahlia tubers can take up to eight weeks to break dormancy and for eyes to begin to grow sprouts. We do not presprout tubers before shipping. If you expect tubers to be sprouting when you receive them, please don't order from us as we can't guarantee they will be. Dahlias require warm temperatures to break dormancy (15+ degrees C) and most will do so quickly once the weather warms in the spring.
Dahlia tubers come in all shapes and sizes. They are like a small potato, and the size or appearance of the tuber itself (as long as it's not dried out or rotten) has absolutely nothing to do with the health of the plant or the flowers it will produce. They can be as small as an AA battery or as large as a banana. We actually prefer to plant smaller tubers. If a tuber is very large, we will often cut it shorter for ease of shipping, and we almost always cut the bottom tip of the tuber to make sure there isn't any internal rot. Sometimes tubers can become a little wrinkled in storage. None of these things will affect the performance of the tuber.
SATISFACTION GUARANTEE : Please inspect your tubers when they arrive and reach out to us by email (not on social media) within seven days if you have any concerns or questions and we'll be happy to help you. Once you've received your tubers, please store in a cool, dry place and follow the instructions for planting that will come with your order. Dahlia tubers should be planted outside after your last frost date, and should not be planted out in unseasonably cold or wet weather. If you choose to start tubers indoors early for cuttings (planting in pots with neck and eyes out of the soil) you take the risk of drying out the exposed parts of the tuber. We are committed to providing the highest quality tubers, but weather, soil, pests, and other environmental factors affect tuber performance and we can not be responsible for tubers once they've been planted by customers. Please remember that we are dealing with a natural product that moves at the pace of Mother Nature; follow planting instructions and have patience and your tubers should grow.
Also please note that dahlias are a perishable product and though we work very hard to keep them at optimal conditions for storage, some varieties do not store well. Should any of our tubers be unfit to ship out in April, we will fully refund customers for the product.
DAHLIA VIRUS : New information from the American Dahlia Society's research has shown that up to 87% of asymptomatic plants may carry dormant viruses. We are extremely diligent and monitor the health of our plants carefully. We sanitize our snips between plants when cutting and dividing tubers, inspect plants and dispose of any displaying symptoms of virus and we use a variety of methods for organic pest control. In the fall, we dig our tubers by hand and sanitize between plants when chopping them down at season's end. However, no environment is completely virus-free. Buyers should be aware that it is impossible to be 100% sure that a tuber is not carrying a dormant virus or disease, and by purchasing you accept that risk. Since no growing environment (including your own) can be completely sterile and virus can be spread easily by insects, we do not guarantee a refund for symptoms of virus. Please also keep in mind that symptoms of virus such as pale leaves, discolouration and stunted plants can also be caused by environmental factors such as cold and wet weather, drought, soil health, insect pressure or herbicides.
Dahlia tuber sales are final. Once orders are placed, we cannot make changes or add or subtract items.
